Maori are, I guess, the equivalent of american indians - here before whitey came and ruined everything. Maori have a culture unique to New Zealand and this conflicted with the settlement ideas of new zealanders - we have (and had) huge dramas/wars because of colonisation - the typical vibe is often maori do more harm than good (go rent the movie Once Were Warriors) - e.g. over representation in jails but go figure when last years US Major golf open winner Micheal Cambell is proudly a maori (And NZ rightly very proud of him).

If u are really really really keen check out http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/

To the actual link - i think its a poor piece of work and prob wouldn't stand up to a real scruitiny of the facts . I haven't got a beef with maori people, I just don't support claims of the survey - it could be my sterotyped ideas about your average maori bro coming though but i really do doubt that maori as a cultural group are any more entrepreneurial than any one else in NZ.

i think if you looked at the stats on sme development and the establishment of ancillary businesses around our core assets then it makes sense that we'd have more opportunities than non-maori, at least as far as new zealand is concerned.

besides we've benefited from a hell of a lot of specific analysis of maori vs non-maori stats so would naturally rate higher in a statistical study that necessarily avoids other cultures/peoples/etc.

at the end of the day though, most new zealander aren't exposed to the more successful end of the spectrum as far as business goes. after the tainui debacle we learned to keep our successes to ourselves lest publicity and public interest prove to be the kiss of death to anything good and decent in the world

All that may be true but it doesn't address the statement "Maori are the world's third most entrepreneurial people" Comapred to who? Eskimos and Easter Islanders?

Maybe I should have said I doubt that above statement very much rather than 'i really do doubt that maori as a cultural group are any more entrepreneurial than any one else in NZ. ' meh.
