Weekend that was Part: 3:33

My weekend basically started on Wednesday so that's a win right there. Thursday arvo, Jay Bee and I flew to Auckland to see U2 play a wicked set list. And then, just for kicks I went saw U2 a second night. Those Irish lads are the freaking bees knee. Jay-Z was a bit of fun too. In amongst that I got to see the cousins and their cute offspring so all good.

Hopped back to a Magnificent* sunny weekend in Wellington. In practice for what I hope are many future glorious summer days, I cooked a BBQ - chicken legs with lashings of onion and garlic. We then watched the X-Files: I want to Believe movie. It was great to see Mulder and Skully hamming it up and er getting it on. As far as an idea for X-files goes it was pretty good, movies about questioning one's faith are usually interesting and X-files did a nice spin on Skully losing faith instead of Mulder. To sum up though, it's a really good telly-movie. I did enjoy the two headed dog.

According to Jordan Luck, Sundays are for washing and doing the hoovering so I did exactly that, but sneaking in a fair amount of Halo, walks for ice-cream amongst cleaning the car and checking that the gas stove still works for our epic camping trip in the New Year.

Amazon also paid me some credit via affiliate earnings so I bought a Dunlop Crybaby Wah and a Black Label Chorus pedal. Cant.Hardly.Wait. for them to arrive.

Dark Side of the Moon

So I was chatting to Optimus Prime about the third documentary Michael Bay is making about the Autobot Leader's life, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and he said that Bay better not fuck it up like he did Revenge of the Fallen or he was gonna open a can of cyber-oil and shove it down his throat. To which I suggested we simply feed him to the sharkticons and save the oil, seeing how expensive it was. Prime said something about Spielberg had faith in the man and he was just joking. But I knew he wasn't.

I asked Oppie if he thought the documentary was going to to focus on the time Unicron came to town but he said, while that was a great battle he pointed out Rodimus Prime had refused to allow his image and likeness to be used so the documentary makers were going to focus on the time humans banned the Autobots from the planet. He then showed me a picture from that time which showed human sentiment about the Autobots:

Prime continued "Sometimes I felt like I was persecuted like Nelson Mandella was but, dear Jimmy Jangles, we made it through the dark period and now you can buy toy figures of me at the toy stores! I make 30 cents off every doll sold! I'm the richest Autobot ever!"

So I promptly reminded Prime rent was due and put on some Pink Floyd. 

Black Caps up to usual tricks

I see the Black Caps are up to their usual tricks, with wickets flying round the ground like a Poltergeist was running round pulling stumps to sent the shits up the batsmen. Heck, maybe Tim McIntosh already had the shits.

I suspect The Phantom may be bowling sooner or later today....

Democracy is the only system that persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be.

Having been following the recent news that political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi  had been released, I had thought to myself that U2 would be pleased as they dedicated Walk On to her.  Aung is this era's quivalent of Nelson Mandela, a prisoner for standing up for democracy and promoting it in her own country. 

Given U2's activism and involvement with Amnesty International, it's no surprise U2 have sought to bring publicity to Aung San Suu Kyi's plight. So it was no surprise I received the following email from the official U2 website:

Dear U2 Fan,

I'm sure, like us, you're delighted with the news of the release of Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma at the weekend. We should all be relieved, if cautious, that she has been able to take a step towards freedom.

However, we must remember that her release is not part of any political process but is designed to get positive publicity for the dictatorship after the blatant rigging of elections on 7th November. We must not forget the thousands of other political prisoners still suffering in Burma’s jails and must do whatever we can to encourage the international community to engage the junta in dialogue.

We will continue our support of this remarkable woman and her campaign, and as always we count on your continued input and continued vigilance.

So like Jimmy Jangles had a epic three days so thought he'd share.

Friday - Work team and I headed to Marlborough's wineries - Spy Valley, St Claire's were stand outs but frankly, Moa Brewery's Five Hops Ale was the class find of the day - sitting outside in perfect weather, talking shit and listening to old school Tom Jones classics = bliss.

Saturday - Hit Auckland to see Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Picture Show. The man himself narrated it - when he walked out all bald and skinny he brought the house down without say a word, such is the respect for the original Riff Raff. Show itself was loud and fun, full of dirty moments, appropriate amounts of inappropriate molestation and humor.

Sunday - Jimmy Jangles also took part in the Christmas Parade in Wellington - miles and miles of kids having a great time! A lion tried to eat me!

Three different regions, three days, not bad for Jimmy! Still have the U2 shows and Bon Jovi to come this month!
