Jimmy Jangles' Transformers T-Shirt Collection

Jimmy Jangles’ Transformers T-Shirt Collection

So it really does seem like it is Transformers Week here at The Optimus Prime Experiment.

If you are looking for someone to blame, you can start with my grandparents, who brought me back Mirage from the United States before Transformers were even properly cool in New Zealand. That kind of thing leaves a mark on a person. A good mark. A chrome-plated, laser-blasted, robot-shaped mark.

But for this specific post, the finger of responsibility points more directly at Jay Bee. A couple of Valentines ago she bought me a Transformers T-shirt, the one with the Autobot logo off to the right, and from that moment on things escalated. What began as one shirt became a condition. A lifestyle. A proud and only slightly ridiculous form of wardrobe drift.

After that, cheap Jay Jays sales did the rest. If you know, you know. Ten bucks a pop in the Manners Mall store in Wellington was the sort of thing that could ruin a man financially if that man happened to have poor impulse control and a deep emotional attachment to giant transforming robots.

So here it is. The collection. No shame. No restraint. Just cotton, logos, and a perfectly reasonable amount of Cybertronian loyalty.

Enjoy.

Looking at the full spread, the collection says a few things quite clearly. First, I have excellent taste. Second, the Autobot logo is one of the greatest design achievements in recorded human and robot history. Third, no matter how many shirts you own, there is always room for one more if the print is right and the price is suspiciously low.

There is also something oddly satisfying about a Transformers shirt collection. They are part nostalgia, part low-key public declaration, part wearable signal to fellow fans that yes, you too understand the spiritual importance of giant robots arguing about freedom, loyalty, and whose turn it is to ruin Earth.

Some people collect art. Some collect wine. Some collect expensive watches and speak about them in tones usually reserved for medieval manuscripts. Me? Apparently I collect giant robot shirts acquired through sentiment, luck, and discount retail warfare.

And honestly, I regret nothing.
