When we reach the City

when we reach the city

When we reach the City
What shall we see?
Will there be the dead, as was before
Or will it be happy, like times lost to lore?

When we reach the City
Will they open their arms
Or will arms be fired at our bodies, so cold and tired?

When we reach the City
Will it be a home?
Or a tomb of past regrets
Remember the horrors, lest we forget.

When we reach the City
It won’t be paved with gold
And I know you wont be there
To have and to hold

When we reach the City
Can I talk to Ray?
I haven’t read his book
But I know the sad things he might want to say

I was inspired to write this poem by the works of Ray Bradbury, a truly talented author.
